Jude has been in the UK in a home for the past 3.5 years. He is house trained, walks nicely on a lead, is neutered and fully vaccinated. He would suit a rural/semi rural home. His family have recently had a baby and due to his occasional night terrors (which can make him disorientated when he awakens) his family are unable to fully trust him around the baby. They have asked us to find him a new loving home. Below is what Jude’s family have to say about him:

Jude loves being around people, he loves fuss (chin/head/chest scratches and occasional belly rubs when he rolls) and attention but it has to be on his terms, when he’s having time to himself he doesn’t like to be disturbed and will grumble to let you know he’s not happy with something. Occasionally has night terrors where he will lash out if accidentally startled and has nipped. It does hurt and draw blood but it’s not intentional on his part and just a reflex. Unfortunately there’s no warning with it as he’s asleep or not long woken up and may still be a little disoriented. Once he realises what’s happened he goes very sheepish and after a little bit of time he’s back to his loveable self. He loves being sat near people, either on your feet or on the sofa which can make this slightly more problematic but it’s manageable with a bit of awareness. He’s also reactive to some dogs and will go for them occasionally if they’re allowed to get too close. he’ll walk alongside other dogs and be in the same area, just not up close or he lashes out. For these reasons he needs to be in a single dog household, with possible introductions to other dogs in a controlled environment and with some training. Jude does sometimes have separation anxiety as he’s so people orientated but he can be distracted with a treat such as peanut butter in a kong so it lasts long enough to keep him occupied while you leave. Ideally he’ll go to someone who can be at home a fair amount of the time. He doesn’t have massive energy levels, a little like a greyhound where he gets very excited to play or go for a walk but then runs out of energy fairly quickly and wants a lie down. Gets walked for about an hour a day but will go longer sometimes, equally can skip a day with no issues. He does pull a little on the lead but mainly because he’s keen to get going, he calms down after a while but does like to walk at a good pace. He’ll chase a ball but doesn’t fetch. Snow/frosty weather really excites him, if you kick it up he tries to catch it, same with leaves thrown up for him. Tug of war is his favourite game and can be used a distraction from other dogs on a walk with the command ‘tug tug’ and presentation of a rope type toy. Other than tug of war he’s not That big on toys. He’s very food orientated and can be defensive especially with things like pigs ears or anything meaty. He has a slow feeder bowl as food lasts seconds but he will wait to eat with commands so you can place the bowl without him launching at it. He will eat anything, and I mean anything including any veg like lettuce or carrot ends. On a walk he’ll try to eat fox/cat/rabbit poo if he can. Because of being food orientated he’s quite trainable and knows basic commands but can get too excited and roll them all into one, but it’s cute to see. He’s sometimes reluctant to go to the toilet in bad weather, understandably, and will lie and pretend he’s been so needs to be watched and encouraged to ‘toilet’ sometimes. I think he just wants to back in where it’s warm and dry with people. He’s not a huge fan of travelling in the car but he tolerates it with a little bit of whining, settles after a while and is happy to jump up into the boot because he knows he’ll end up somewhere fun. He had an operation on his knee when he was one for a dislocated kneecap, it’s all fine now but the vet recommended he stay on PetPlan insurance incase it reoccurs or the other one goes. He’s a really great dog with lots to give and my best friend, I’m sure he can be someone else’s best friend too.
