Description:

Barney’s life began in the most heartbreaking way—just a day old, helpless, and abandoned in a bag near a church alongside his tiny siblings. Cold, hungry, and completely vulnerable, they were rushed to our vet clinic, where the team fought to save their fragile little lives. With their eyes still tightly closed and their bodies weak, survival seemed uncertain. They refused to eat, and despite every effort, some of Barney’s siblings didn’t make it. But Barney and his sister, Gracie, clung to life. Thanks to the tireless, round-the-clock care of our vet, Denisa, they slowly began to accept food and grow stronger.

Now, Barney is in a foster home in the UK, ready for the loving home he was always meant to have. After such a tragic start, he deserves a family who will cherish him forever. He is full of love, resilience, and a heart just waiting to be shared. Could you be the one to give Barney the happy ending he’s been waiting for?

Barney is the perfect blend of sweetness, intelligence, and loyalty—just waiting for the right person to give him the loving home he deserves. Once he trusts you, he adores you completely. He’s the ultimate cuddle companion, like wrapping your arms around a big, fluffy teddy bear. His affectionate nature will fill your home with warmth and love. Barney is also incredibly smart—he learns quickly and listens well, especially when given consistent guidance. He loves car rides, happily jumping in and settling down for the journey. At home, he’s a dream—content to sleep alone downstairs once he’s settled, never begging at the table, and completely house-trained. He even gets along with cats, playing nicely with his foster home’s cat.

Barney is a little soul who has never truly had a place to call home. He can be nervous and unsure, but beneath that fear is a dog who just wants to feel safe, loved, and understood. His fear can manifest into barking and grumbling, and if you don’t listen, he may snap ( but has never bitten ). It’s Barney’s way of protecting himself in a world that has let him down. Men, in particular, make him anxious, and he doesn’t like to be touched or approached by those he doesn’t know. But here’s the beautiful part—once Barney trusts you, his walls come down. His silly, affectionate side shines through, and he becomes the most loving, cuddly companion.

Barney needs someone who is patient and committed, willing to work through his fears and help him feel secure. His behavioural challenges are very workable with the right guidance and understanding. Barney would best suit a home as an only dog and no young children. Barney needs a loving home that sees beyond his fears to the amazing, loving boy underneath. With time, patience, and love, Barney will reward you with unwavering loyalty and companionship. He just needs that one special person to believe in him. Could that be you?

Thank you for your interest in Barney. If you would like to apply to adopt one of our dogs, please read the ‘How do I Adopt’ pages, where you can find more information about the process and the costs involved.

As you can imagine, each one of our dogs is very precious to us. They haven’t had the best start in life, and therefore, it is absolutely crucial we find the right homes for them. When you complete a registration form, please tell us as much as you can about why you are looking to adopt a dog and how you think you can meet their needs. Every dog is an individual, and our amazing rehoming team will know exactly what type of home each dog needs to thrive. For example, will the dog cope with a small garden or is it the type of dog who needs to live in a rural environment? Will the dog enjoy being around children, or is it best suited to an adult-only home? Will it cope with sharing a home with other pets, or is it best as an only dog? Are you outdoorsy types who like to go hiking, or would you prefer a dog who is happy to snuggle up on the sofa with you? Our rehoming team will be very familiar with the needs of each of our dogs and the information you provide on your application form will help them to match you with the right dog.
