Temporary Ban On Dogs From Romania

  • Please note that the ban has now been lifted *

It is with much sadness and great regret that we have to inform you that, due to the crisis in Ukraine, DEFRA and APHA, the government agencies responsible for the importation of dogs and cats from overseas, have banned all imports of Dogs, Cats and Ferrets that originate from 4 countries Romania, Poland, Belarus and Ukraine.

This ban was initially put in place on the 14th of April for one month and was due to end on the 14th of May 2022. The day before the ban was due to be lifted, it was extended to the 9th of July 2022. Unfortunately, again, the day before the ban was due to be lifted, we were notified that the ban would be extended to 3 September 2022. DEFRA has now extended the ban again until the 29th of October 2022.

This is obviously the worst news that we could ever imagine as all of our dogs are now prisoners in Romania and cannot get to the UK until such a time that we can start transports running again.

As you can imagine, we are all heartbroken for our dogs but also for our potential adopters that are now made to wait for another 8 weeks for their dogs to join them.

This will be an incredibly hard time for us as a charity, as if we are not rehoming, we can’t save other dogs from the streets, as our kennels are full to overflowing.

We would, of course, love for you to consider one of our wonderful dogs who now need us all more than ever before. Please put your application forward, as once the ban is over, we need to get our dogs to you and into the UK, but obviously, please be prepared to wait. As is always the case, the best things are really worth waiting for.

We do have several Romanian dogs in the UK looking for homes that are available straight away to join your family, so please look on our website under DOGS IN UK FOSTER or use the button below.

Thank you for your understanding and patience, and we will keep you updated as and when we have further news.

We’d love to chat…
